Marlon Boeger, Florian Konietzko and Felix Wiemers win the Ride the Stairway 2008
The Solingen Snowboard, Free Ski and Mountain Bike Contest was a huge success.
Solingen 25th February 2008: Last Friday and Saturday the 3rd Edition of the Ride the Stairway got under way. In spite of rain and high temperatures, over 40 Snowboarders, Mountain Bikers and Free Ski Riders signed up to rock the SetUp.
Because of the high temperature on Friday Lunchtime of around about 12°C, a new load of snow had to be delivered. In the afternoon the Riders began practicing and as planned at 7pm the Best Trick Contest started. The SetUp was technically very demanding: Besides the very steep and small starting ramp, the degree of difficulty increased for the Snowboarders and Free Skiers this year with the 4m long UpBox, just as difficult was the standard of the Starter. To overcome the SetUp the Riders gave all they could. The results were Tricks like 50/50 Back Flip Outs, Frontside 270/270 out, Frontside Boardslides, One footed or as the Bikers say `No Foot Can Can´, Back Flips and 360´s.
In the evening both the Riders and the spectators partied in the `Libelle´ at the Contests Afterparty. The party reached a climax with the appearance of the Rock Combo Dan Dyers, and at about 4am the dance floor started to get a little emptier.
More snow was ordered on Saturday morning as the warm night left track marks on the SetUp. At about Lunch Time the Finals got underway. Here also were tricks like Superman, Double Back Flips and Tailwhips which were just part of the show for the Mountain Bikers, while the Snow Riders tricks included combo´s like 50/50 to Frontflips, Frontside 180 Switch, 50/50 Bachside, 180 out and Switch Tailpress Pretzel out Standing and impressed the round about 8000 spectators. The only women competitor Andrea Lucht (Snowboard), who was constantly fired on by the spectators, unfortunately didn’t reach any of the first 3 places. Florian Konietzko (MTB) from Munich made a Hat Trick after winning the 1st place in the Best Trick Contest, as well as winning the overall Best Trick Title (decided by the public), and therefore he ended up winning the brand new Carharrt Beach Cruiser.
The official `Ride the Stairway´ snow was delivered by Jever Ski Hall in Neuss. We thank all our Partners and Sponsors for a great Event.
